New Feature: How to pin posts on Instagram

New Feature: How to pin posts on Instagram

V9blog_DefineTargetMarket

One of the latest features to hit Instagram allows users to pin up to three posts or reels to the top of their profile.

The new addition works similarly to the pinning functionality on Facebook or Twitter, in which a post stays at the top of your feed as if it’s your most recent content.

Why you would want to pin your Instagram posts?

• Gain more visibility on selected posts
• Showcase your best work
• Highlight promotions, offers or campaigns

How to pin your Instagram posts?

1. Open the Instagram app on your phone.
2. Tap your profile picture in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
3. Now tap the post you want to pin, followed by the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.
4. Finally, tap Pin to Your Profile from the options that appear.
5. Repeat this process for two more posts.

If you change your mind about your pinned posts, you can un-pin a post by heading back to the same menu and clicking Unpin from your profile.

It’s as easy as that.

A simple guide to technical Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

A simple guide to technical Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

Technical Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) refers to the process of optimising your website so that search engines can crawl and index it effortlessly. It is called “technical” because it has nothing to do with the actual content and the main goal is to optimise the infrastructure of the website.

Search engines give preferential treatment to websites that display certain technical characteristics such as a secure connection, responsive design, or fast loading time. In this guide, we mention some of the characteristics that you can start optimising so that your website is up to scratch.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure that the structure of your website meets the expectation of search engine algorithms and is rewarded in search results accordingly.

1. Site speed
If your website is slow, your website visitors will get frustrated and move on to another website. There are some free tools that you can use to test the speed of your website:

You should aim for a three-second page load time. Some factors that can help make your website faster:

  • Optimise your images: Images take up almost half of the space on your website. Use an image compression tool to resize your images so that they are as small as possible. Make sure you don’t compromise on the quality of your images when doing so.
  • CSS style sheet: Use only one style sheet. Multiple style sheets mean many server requests which can lengthen the time taken to load your website.
  • Minify your site coding: Minification refers to the process of removing unnecessary or redundant data in your coding without affecting how the resource is processed by the browser.
  • Reduce plugins: Keeping unwanted plugins on your WordPress websites will add a great number of pointless files. It will also increase the size of your backup and put an overwhelming amount of load on your server resources while backup files are being generated.

2. Mobile-friendliness
The web is being accessed more and more on mobile devices. Designing your website to be mobile friendly ensures that your pages perform well on all devices. Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test is a free tool you can use to check if your page is mobile responsive. Browse your website on your mobile devices and see if the navigation is easy or if you can spot any errors.

3. XML Sitemap
An XML sitemap is a map that contains your site’s pages, posts and more. It is a tool that search engines use to find all the content on your site and it helps search engines determine what to index and what not to index.

Many SEO plugins generate an XML sitemap for free but if you are not using an SEO plugin, make sure that you have an XML sitemap that is submitted to Google. Google not only needs to know you have an XML sitemap, but they also need to know where it is.

4. Crawl Errors
Search engines use robots to crawl or spider your website. The robots follow links to discover content on your site. A crawl error is when a search engine tries to get to a page on your site but can’t do it for some reason. This can happen when you change an URL or delete old content. To help you determine the pages that are not working, set up the Google Search Console.

The technical elements every website needs

The technical elements every website needs

From functionality and appearance to navigation and coding, a lot goes into creating an eye-catching, and user-friendly website. In this article, we discuss some of the important elements that Google and the other search engines take into consideration when deciding on where to place a site in the organic results for a given search query.

These are some of the technical elements all websites need:

1. Encryption
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a global standard security technology that enables encrypted communication between your website browser and the website server. In other words, SSL allows for a private “conversation” amongst both parties and is used to decrease the risk of sensitive information (e.g., credit card numbers, passwords, emails, etc.) from being stolen or tampered with by hackers.

Google search supports encrypted websites and automatically ranks these types of websites higher in the search results pages. When visitors see that your website is secure, they are more likely to do business with you, because having an SSL certificate will deem your business credible. Also, remember that there are browsers that can detect insecure websites and these browsers can send warnings to discourage people from visiting insecure sites.

Installing an SSL security certificate can be a complex task for non-website designers, so it is a good idea to request this during your website design process.

2. Security
Cyberattacks can damage your reputation, discourage visitors from returning to your website, and are expensive to fix. Making sure that your website is safe and secure is an essential part of managing your website. Create strong and unique passwords that are difficult to crack on your website server and admin areas.

It’s important to keep up with the latest software updates too. It can be frustrating because every time you log in, there are new updates but remember that those updates are released for a reason and a lot of times, it’s to make your website more secure. Don’t miss them.

3. Search Engine Marketing
There are over a billion websites online today. How are you going to compete? Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the process of trying to attain more organic (not paid) traffic to your website through improving your content and keyword relevancy. Many technical elements fall into this category, such as meta descriptions, image captions, header tags, and page titles.

Content also plays a major role in SEO. It is important to create content that is original and engaging and with specifically-chosen keywords.

4. Spam Protection
Everyone hates spam, but it’s not going away anytime soon. Prevention is the key. Not only will your pages and posts get hit with spam comments, but even worse are spam submissions on your forms.

Many companies choose to use CAPTCHA to prevent spam through their online forms.

5. Support/Maintenance Plan
Keeping your new website fresh, accurate, and working well will maintain your company’s strong online presence while increasing visitors and activity. If your website isn’t working properly or is out of date, you may lose out on significant opportunities, such as new leads and sales.

Website maintenance refers to the tasks required to keep your website functioning properly and up to date. It involves regularly checking your website for issues, correcting any issues, performing backups, and executing updates.

Build an email list with these powerful tactics

Build an email list with these powerful tactics

Email marketing helps you to build a relationship with your customers, nurture leads and convert them into long-lasting customers. It helps to stay top of mind with your customers and keeps them informed about new products, specials and other company information.

An email list is a list of people who have signed up to receive email updates about your brand, products or services. Creating a solid email list is one of the essential elements of a digital marketing strategy.

Building an email list is a crucial aspect of email marketing because, without a dedicated database, you cannot leverage customer communication.

Here are five powerful tactics to build your email list:

1. Create simple subscription opportunities

The first step in building an email list is to create a subscribe form that will collect the person’s name and email address. The trick is to make the signup process as simple as possible. Below are some of the most popular ways to gather email addresses:

  • Add a subscribe tick box to your contact form and all other relevant forms on your website.
  • If you own an eCommerce store, insert the subscribe form in the checkout process.
  • Include the subscribe form in the blog section of your website.
  • Place the subscribe form in the footer of your website.
  • Share a link to the subscribe form on other marketing platforms such as your social media channels.

2. Design lead magnets

Now that you have made it simple for people to subscribe to your email list, give them some incentive to sign up. Lead magnets are small offers that are related to your products or services.

The objective of a lead magnet is to entice people to provide their email addresses in exchange for something of value.

Examples of lead magnets may include:

  • Discount on a purchase
  • Free report
  • Free eBook
  • Template
  • Checklist

3. Produce valuable content

Crafting helpful content will help grow your list and retain current subscribers. Recipients are more likely to open and forward emails that are entertaining, informative, and valuable.

4. Encourage subscribers to share your emails

Ask your subscribers to forward your email to someone they think could use it. Insert a “Forward to friend” link in your email marketing campaigns to access your recipient’s network of friends, family and colleagues.

5. Use traditional marketing

Offline events such as conferences, exhibitions and seminars are excellent for engaging face-to-face with your audience. Use this opportunity to ask for email addresses.

Final thoughts

Remember that it is not how fast you build your list but how effectively you acquire quality leads and retain them. Every business is unique, so it is necessary to test different strategies to find out what works best.
